Labor on the job with burden, not just hours
Hours alone don't tell you what the crew cost. CFOS adds taxes, insurance and benefits by class, so every job shows the labor number that hits your books. Payroll stays in your payroll system.

Hours times the wage rate is the wrong number
A laborer paid a set hourly wage costs you more than that wage. Payroll taxes, workers comp, general liability and benefits all add to the hours. If the job only sees the wage, labor looks cheaper than it was, and the job looks more profitable than the books will say.
The difference appears later as a margin that doesn't match the estimate. You bid labor with burden in it, so the actual has to include burden too. Otherwise you're comparing two different numbers and calling the difference a surprise.
Burden by class, not one flat rate
Different crews cost different amounts to insure. A roofer, a laborer and an operator have different workers comp rates, and benefits differ by who's eligible. CFOS applies burden by wage class so each hour is priced at what that class costs you.
The result is a labor cost on the job that includes the taxes, insurance and benefits. Your budget by cost code and your actual labor are finally on the same basis. If you want the list of typical burden items, /labor-burden-chart has them.
From the field to QuickBooks Payroll
Foremen enter field time, and someone approves it. Approved time goes to QuickBooks Payroll, so no one keys the same hours twice. The hours post to the right job and cost code on the way.
Payroll itself stays in your payroll system. Your payroll company or QuickBooks Payroll still calculates pay, withholding and filings. CFOS handles the job side, and it doesn't take over the paycheck.
Certified payroll week laid out
If you work prevailing wage jobs, the certified payroll report is a weekly chore. CFOS lays out the certified payroll week from approved time, with each worker, class, job and hours for the week. It gives your payroll person the layout to work from.
Deductions stay with payroll. CFOS doesn't calculate or report them, so there's one place for withholding and one place for hours. That keeps the line clear between job costing and the payroll system.
Where it fits
Labor burden is part of job costing, which is always on and included in the one price. It feeds the budget versus actual view and the WIP. Equipment is handled the same way, with daily rates charged to the job each day it's on a daily.
