Estimating alignment isn't about software. It's about structure. The estimate and the job cost system have to speak the same language. This requires three things working together.

Component 1: The Alignment Meeting

Bring the estimator, the bookkeeper, and the PM together. Walk through how the estimate is built and how costs are posted. Identify every disconnect. Restructure until every estimate category maps to a job cost code. This meeting is non-negotiable. It can't be skipped or delegated.

Component 2: Matching Categories and Phases

Every estimate phase needs a cost code. Every cost code needs to be in your accounting system. The 7-category job cost structure from Chapter 1 becomes the framework: estimating phases map to categories, then to sub-types, then to cost codes at the third level of granularity.

Component 3: Live Variance
